Roadmap to protect rivers
Climate change is perhaps emerging as one of the greatest environmental challenges of the twenty-first century, which is further intensified due to population growth, economic development and increased demand on natural resources for food and energy needs. Over the last 25 years there has been a gradual depletion of river flows. The flow is not one year up or one year down, but steadily depleting.
Current situation of water and sanitation in India (acute shortage of water)
India is facing one of its biggest challenges – the world’s worst water crisis. India is at the epicenter of a global water and sanitation disaster. The problem at hand, has ballooned and now our lives, livelihoods and futures hang in balance.
Clean water is essential for life to exist, but in many countries such as in India, access to wastewater treatment facilities is limited, and untreated wastewater is released to rivers, lakes and the ocean causing pollution. Johkasou in Japanese language means, purification tank. A Johkasou is a machine which sanitizes impurities contained within wastewater, using the power of microorganisms that occur naturally within the apparatus. Johkasasou has been developed in Japan as a decentralized domestic wastewater treatment facility. It remains one of the best alternatives to wastewater treatment in areas where sewage infrastructure has not yet been improved worldwide. The key highlights of this technology include Long Product Life, high efficiency, modular design, no requirement for a full-time operator, low energy consumption, low maintenance requirement and faster execution without any issues of noise and no foul smell at sites. The system is an integrated septic tank-anaerobic filter-contact aeration-final settling tank and effluent disinfection facility.
